Testing Equiment

Our Laboratory provides a modern temperature controlled effective stress laboratory offering the standard range of drained or undrained triaxial effective stress and permeability tests together with many of the advanced tests now commonly being required.
Facilities also exist for determination of direct shear and one-dimensional consolidation properties using the oedometer frame.
Our laboratory staff have over 130 years of combined testing and technical experience to offer on a wide range of laboratory testing and geotechnical problems enabling us to provide detailed Laboratory Technical Reports relating to testing undertaken, or report on laboratory test results undertaken by other laboratories.
- Effective Stress Triaxial and Permeability Systems
- Automatic Volume Change Apparatus
- Hydraulic Consolidation (Rowe Cell) 75 mm diameter
- Undrained Triaxial Test Systems
- Direct Shear Apparatus - 60/100 mm2
- Oedometer Consolidation Frames - Standard
- Hi-loader Consolidation Frame
- Twin Gauge Compression Machine - 2000 kN capacity
- Constant Head Permeability Apparatus
- Moisture Condition Value Apparatus
The laboratory is also capable to carry out a wide range of Material and Rock testing from UCS testing point loads, Brazilian disk, Density tests to Slake Durability and Materials tests including Soundness 10% Fines Concrete Cube Testing and storage, along with other BS tests.
In-situ tests on soils (BS1377: Part 9:1990) can be undertaken upon request. The Laboratory maintains a range of in-situ testing equipment to assist in the determination of a range of design parameters.
- The Laboratory maintains two California bearing ratio (CBR) test frames
- Vehicle Mounted
- JCB attachment
- In-situ density tests using the sand replacement method suitable for fine-, medium- and coarse-grained soils can be undertaken using either the small or large pouring cylinder.
- Water Replacement Density Tests
- The vertical deformation and strength characteristics (Plate Bearing Tests) can also be determined using a variety of rigid circular steel plates. Loads are applied using a 500 tonne hydraulic jack and three manual displacement indicators equally spaced around the steel plate using a remote datum bar. The results obtained can be used to predict parameters such as the Modulus of Sub-grade Reaction, the ultimate bearing capacity [Q(ult)], the allowable loading (qa) and safe bearing capacity of a soil. GEO Laboratory Testing Services Ltd. can also provide and maintain experienced laboratory staff and test equipment on site.
